1) Indian Railways joins Twitter
i) Indian Railways has launched its official page on Twitter. It will also be present in Facebook and YouTube.
ii) Railways phone enquiries number -- 139 --will become toll free soon, said minister of state for railways.
 
2) Apex court refuses to stay appointment of Suhag as next Army Chief
i) The Supreme Court today refused to stay the appointment of Lieutenant General Dalbir Singh Suhag as the next Army Chief, who is to take over the charge from August 1.
ii) The apex court said there is no urgency to stay the appointment of Lt Gen Suhag as pleaded by Lt Gen Ravi Dastane.
iii) The Centre also justified the appointment, saying there is nothing in the allegations levelled by Lt Gen Dastane and Lt Gen Suhag fulfills all the criteria for the post. He was the seniormost in the seniority list, it said.

3) Sunburn plans to create Guinness world record
i) Sunburn, an electronic dance music brand and a property of Percept Live, will attempt to create a Guinness World Record of the 'Largest Human Logo Formation'.

4) Raju Venkatraman is new chief of Madras Management Association

i) Raju Venkatraman, a serial entrepreneur running diagnostics company Medall Healthcare, has been elected President of Madras Management Association for the year 2014-15.
ii) At its 58th Annual General Meeting, the not-for-profit management education forum elected key corporate personalities as officers bearers for the current fiscal: T Shivaraman, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Shiram EPC Ltd, is the new Senior Vice-President; Srikanth Ramanujam, Managing Director of Brakes India, will take over as Vice-President; L Ramkumar, Managing Director, Tube Investments of India, has been named Secretary; and Kavitha D Chitturi, Executive Director at The KCP Ltd, will be Treasurer. 

5) Williams stays number one in rankings, Wimbledon champ Kvitova fourth
i) Serena Williams of the United States has retained top spot in the latest world rankings released by the WTA Monday, while Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova moved up to fourth.
ii) Kvitova of the Czech Republic has gained two places from sixth but still trails Li Na (China) and Simona Halep (Romania) behind Williams, who is top with an advantage of 2,550 points.

6) Novak Djokovic becomes world number one after Wimbledon victory
i)  Novak Djokovic’s Wimbledon victory returned him to the top of the latest world rankings, released by the ATP Monday.
ii) Serbian Djokovic has moved above Rafael Nadal of Spain to top the rankings by 460 points. Defeated finalist Roger Federer has skipped compatriot Stan Wawrinka to claim third.

7) Kamla Beniwal  appointed as new Governor of Mizoram
i) Governor of Gujarat, Kamla Beniwal was transferred and appointed as Governor of Mizoram for the remainder of her term.

8) Vakkom Purushothaman, appointed as Governor of Nagaland
i) Vakkom Purushothaman, the Mizoram Governor, transferred and appointed as Governor of Nagaland for the remainder of his term. Vakkom will continue to hold the additional charge of the office of the Governor of Tripura.

9) Bihar Governor DY Patil took additional charge of West Bengal
i) DY Patil, the Governor of Bihar assumed the additional charge of West Bengal as the acting Governor. Patil took over the charge of the office from MK Narayanan who resigned from the post on 30 June 2014, which was accepted by the President on 4 July 2014. Narayanan became the 24th Governor of West Bengal on 24 January 2010.

10) M S Mehta was appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Reliance Infrastructure on 7 July 2014. He took charge as CEO for a period of five years. He replaced Lalit Jalan, who held the post of CEO of Reliance Infrastructure for more than seven years.

11) United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, William Hague, will arrive in India on a two-day visit for the first time after the formation of the NDA government in the country.
