1. Belarus President on Two-Day Visit in
India
i. Prime
Minister Narendra Modi met Belarus President Aleksandr Grigoryevich Lukashenko
in New Delhi to discuss various issues of mutual interest of both countries. A
number of agreements are expected to be signed in several areas after the
talks.
ii. Mr.
Lukashenko’s visit is significant as it taking place in a year when Belarus and
India are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic
relations.
2. Prakash Padukone to receive BAI's maiden
lifetime achievement award
i. Indian
Badminton legend ‘Prakash Padukone’ will receive Badminton Association of
India’s (BAI) first-lifetime achievement award for his contribution to
Badminton.
ii. The
award carries the cash prize of 10 lakh rupees with a citation.
3. EC of Nepal announces to hold provincial
and parliament elections in two phases
i. The
Election Commission of Nepal (ECN)has announced the schedule of provincial and
parliamentary elections to be held in two phases on 26th November 7th December.
ii. Two
phases of local polls have already been conducted on 14th May & 28th June
and final round is scheduled on 18th
September.
iii. The
voting will be held between 7 AM to 5 PM.
4. Kochi to host Coastal Shipping and Inland
Water Transportation Summit
i. Kochi
will host the fifth edition of the ‘Coastal Shipping and Inland Water
Transportation Business Summit 2017’ at Hotel Crowne Plaza on 22nd September
this year.
ii. The
summit will be an initiative to explore the immense potential of coastal
shipping and waterways as well as an effort to build a shared commitment and
decipher the role that each stakeholder will have to play in integrating the
coastal and waterways transport infrastructure.
iii. P
Sathasivam (Kerala Governor) will present the India Sea-trade Award for
Excellence in Coastal Shipping & Inland Water Transportation.
5. Commerce & Industry Ministry to
organize state start-up conference today
i. Today,
the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Government of India is
organizing the Second State Startup Conference in New Delhi.
ii. The
discussions shall be conducted around four key themes:
iii. Governance
reforms to be undertaken by States for Startups.
iv. Incubation
facilities in India and role of State Governments in developing these
facilities.
Role of
State Governments in setting up funds for Startups.
v. Making
regulations easier for Startups.
vi. The
conference is expected to provide a significant impetus to the creation of an
enabling Startup Ecosystem in the country.
vii. The
conference will be attended by senior functionaries from states, Union
Territories, incubators, accelerators, funding agencies, VCs, angel investors,
and startups.
6. British
Parliament Passed EU Withdrawal Bill
i. The Government’s bid to
extract the UK from EU law in time for Brexit has passed its first Parliamentary test. The EU Withdrawal Bill was backed by
MPs by 326 to 290. The bill, which will end the supremacy of EU law in the UK,
now moves onto its next Parliamentary stage.
ii. Previously referred to as the
Great Repeal Bill, the EU Withdrawal Bill overturns the 1972 European
Communities Act which took the UK into the then European Economic Community. It
will also convert all existing EU laws into UK law, to ensure there are no gaps
in legislation on Brexit day.
7. Assam govt. to provide skill development
training to 30 thousand surrendered militants
i. The Assam
govt. will provide skill development training to 30 thousand surrendered
militants.
ii. Another
24 thousand youths in Assam will be trained under the Prime Minister Kaushal
Vikash Yojna.
iii. The
Assam Skill Development Mission will provide skill training in 40 sectors.
iv. The cost
of the skill development training program will be borne by the state and Centre
govt.

8. 12th September: International Day for
South-South Cooperation
i. The
International Day for South-South Cooperation has been observed on 12th
September 2017 by United Nations (UN) to work on technical cooperation among
developing countries.
ii. The day
celebrates the economic, social and political developments made in recent years
by regions and countries in the south.
iii. The
Global South-South Development Expo 2017 will be hosted by Turkey.
9. Tamil Nadu: Cauvery Maha Pushkaram to be
celebrated on banks of river Cauvery
i. The
Cauvery Maha Pushkaram has been celebrated from today on the banks of river
Cauvery in Tamil Nadu.
ii. The
celestial transit of planet Jupiter from zodiac sign Virgo to Libra is said to
be the Maha Pushkaram period.
iii. River
Cauvery is the lifeline for delta districts of Tamil Nadu including the rice
bowl Thanjavur.
10. IndusInd Bank, Bharat Financial sign
pact to explore merger
i. The board of directors of IndusInd Bank
entered into a ‘confidentiality, exclusivity, and standstill agreement’ with
Bharat Financial Inclusion to evaluate a potential merger between the two
companies.
ii. Microfinance
company Bharat Financial Inclusion (formerly known as SKS Microfinance) is on
the block.
iii. IndusInd
Bank management has been authorized to explore strategic opportunities for the
expansion of its business and to assess the viability of strategic partnership,
collaboration, or restructuring opportunities.
11. Age
limit for National Pension Scheme raised to 65 years
i. Pension
Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has raised the upper age
limit for joining the National Pension Scheme (NPS) to 65 years (existing
60-years).
ii. NPS is
currently open for people between 18 and 60 years
iii. The
scheme has the option of continuing and making contributions up to the age of
70.
The move was
part of the government’s efforts at expanding the pension base.
12. Airtel launches VoLTE services
i. Telecom company ‘Bharti Airtel’ has
launched Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services in Mumbai.
VoLTE (works
over 4G) will offer High Definition (HD) voice calls along with faster call set
up time.
ii. In next
few months, Airtel will rapidly accelerate the deployment of VoLTE to cover all
key geographies to bring HD quality calling to our customers.
iii. Earlier,
Reliance Jio Infcomm was the first company to launch services on the
technology.
VoLTE will
also enable customers to access data at 4G speeds while the call is in
progress.
13. Maharashtra wins Chief Minister's cup
at National kickboxing championship
i. Maharashtra
has won the Chief Minister's cup with 45 gold medals at the National kickboxing
championship being held in Raipur.
ii. Chhattisgarh
secured the second position with 27 gold and Haryana third with 15 gold medals.
Around two
thousand players from 27 states participated in the four-day event.
14. Korea Super Series Badminton tournament
begins today
i. The World
Championship silver Medallist ‘P V Sindhu’ will lead Indian challenge at Korea
Super Series, in Seoul, South Korea.
ii. Sindhu
will open her campaign against Hong Kong's Cheung Ngan Yi in women's singles
competition in Seoul.
iii. Earlier,
Saina and Srikanth decided to skip the event and prepare for next week's Japan
Open.
iv. B Sai
Praneeth(Singapore Open champion) will face Hu Yun(Hong Kong).
v. Parupalli
Kashyap (Commonwealth Games champion) will play Lin Yu Hsien (Chinese Taipei)
in qualifiers.
