1. Delhi became first kerosene-free city in India
i. Delhi Government announced that Delhi has become the first kerosene-free city in the country. This feat was achieved after implementation of the Delhi: A Kerosene-Free Scheme launched in 2012 under which no subsidized kerosene were being issued in Delhi.
About Delhi: A Kerosene-Free Scheme 2012
i. Delhi: A Kerosene-Free Scheme 2012 was launched on 21 August 2012 in collaboration of three Oil Marketing Companies and Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for which Delhi Government had incurred an expenditure of 62 core rupees.
ii. Under the scheme people holding Juggi Ration Card (JRC), Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Antodaya Ann Yojana (AAY) were provided free gas connection along with LPG filled cylinder, two burner gas stove, regulator and suraksha pipe.
iii. The LPG kit were only given to those persons who were using kerosene oil for cooking. Besides, the paper of LPG connection was given to the senior most female member of the family of these ration card holders.

2. UP Governor BL Joshi resigns
i. Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi today resigned from his post.
ii. Amid reports that the Centre is considering replacing governors of some States appointed by the previous UPA regime, BJP leader Subramanium Swamy today said the governors should resign themselves.

iv. He said they were not appointed on merit by the UPA government. The governors are of States including West Bengal, Kerala, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.

3. Govt. appoints RC Lahoti as arbitrator in Vodafone tax case
i. The Central Government has appointed former Chief Justice of India RC Lahoti as arbitrator in the Rs 20,000 crore tax dispute case with UK telecom major Vodafone.
ii. The government’s decision was in response to an arbitration notice served by Vodafone International Holdings BV in April under the Bilateral Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement between India and the Netherlands for resolving the dispute.
iii. Following the international arbitration notice by Vodafone, the Cabinet of the previous United Progressive Alliance regime on May 15 approved the withdrawal of a conciliation offer.
iv. The Supreme Court had ruled in Vodafone’s favour in 2012, saying the company was not liable to pay any tax over the acquisition of assets in India from Hong Kong-based Hutchison.
v. The government, however, amended the tax laws with retrospective effect to undo the Supreme Court judgement and claim taxes.

4. DLF became first real estate developer to receive ISO Quality Certification
i. DLF Home Developers Ltd on 16 June 2014 became the first real estate developer in the country to receive ISO Quality Certification. The ISO Quality Certification was given by British Standard Institute (BSI).
ii. The company received the certification for its adherence to delivery schedules of both residential and commercial projects, customer satisfaction and quality of construction.
iii. The ISO certification will help the company to improve communication, planning and administration processes and bring about positive cultural change in the organization by achieving the long term objectives of delivering excellent housing services to customers, driving responsible business growth and innovation, improving cost effectiveness and market accessibility.

5. FIFA World Cup: Thomas Muller hat trick helps Germany defeat Portugal 4-0
i. In the FIFA World Cup, Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller scored his first international hat-trick as Germany crushed Portugal, 4-0 in a lopsided Group-G opener at Salvador.
ii. Muller scored a hat-trick, this World Cup’s first. Our correspondent reports that injuries to some of their top players did not hinder Germany’s dominance as Portugal was completely outplayed.
iii. Prior the penalty, Portugal created more chances than Germany with Ronaldo, Coentrao and Nani almost going past Neuer. Post-penalty, it was all Germany.
iv. In the other Group-G match, United States defeated Ghana 2-1. In Group-F, Iran and Nigeria held on to a nil-nil draw at Curitiba. This was the first draw of this World Cup.

6. Murli Kartik announced his retirement from all forms of cricket
i. Left-arm spinner Murali Kartik on 14 June 2014 announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. During his career, he had played eight Tests and 37 ODIs for India between 1999 and 2007. Also, Kartik had taken 644 wickets from 203 matches.
ii. His international debut was against South Africa at Mumbai in February 2000, whereas, it took his two years to play his maiden ODI for India.
iii. His ODI debut was against Zimbabwe at Hyderabad in March 2002. His last international appearance for India came in a T20 fixture against Australia in 2010.
