1. RBI simplifies KYC norms for opening bank account
i. The RBI said it had been receiving
representations/references from various quarters, especially migrant workers
and transferred employees, regarding problems faced in submitting a proof of
current/permanent address while opening a bank account.
ii. “In case the proof of address furnished by the customer
is not the local address or address where the customer is currently residing,
the bank may take a declaration of the local address on which all
correspondence will be made by the bank with the customer.
iii. No proof is required to be submitted for such address
for correspondence/local address,” the RBI added.
iv. However, this address may be verified by the bank
through ‘positive confirmation’ such as acknowledgment of receipt of letter,
cheque books, ATM cards; telephonic conversation; and visits.
v. “In the event of change in this address due to relocation
or any other reason, customers may intimate the new address for correspondence
to the bank within two weeks of such a change.”
2. TN to launch `Amma salt’ tomorrow
i. After low-cost canteens and drinking
water, the Jayalalithaa Government in Tamil Nadu is launching “Amma Salt”
tomorrow.
ii. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa will inaugurate
the sale of the “Amma Salt”, a product of Tamil Nadu Salt Corporation Limited
(TNSC) under the State Industries Department, according to an advertisement
released by the government today.
iii. The salt would be available in three varieties — double
fortified, refined free flow iodised and low sodium, they said. However, the
details related to pricing are not known.
iv. This is the latest in the series of welfare initiatives
named after Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who is addressed as “Amma” (mother) by
her supporters.
v. Earlier, the government had launched “Amma
Canteen” offering tiffin and lunch at low cost and “Amma Water,” packaged
drinking water costing Rs 10 per one litre bottle.
vi. TNSC is a fully owned enterprise of the state government,
which today released advertisements in media about the launch of salt.
3. PK Mishra appointed as Additional Principal Secretary
to Prime Minister
i. PK Mishra appointed
as the additional Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. He is a
retired IAS officer of 1972 batch of the Gujarat cadre.

5. Netherlands & Australia enter SFs of women's World
Cup Hockey
i. Olympic champions Netherlands and
Australia have booked their berth in the semifinals of the women's World Cup
Hockey at the The Hague, Netherlands'.
ii. The Netherlands topped Group A with an all-win record
from previous five games, logging 15 points after posting a 3-0 victory over South
Korea at the Kyocera Stadium yesterday.
iii. Netherlands have finished top of the group with
Australia following second. The Netherlands' victory also assured Australia's
entry into the semifinals. Since the Australian eves were held goalless by New
Zealand in their match.
6. Hockey World Cup: Australia thrash India 4-0
i. India suffered a humiliating 0-4 loss
against defending champions Australia in their final group league encounter of
the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup, in The Hague on Monday.
ii. Asserting their strength, Australia built up a four-goal
lead in the initial 22 minutes, before the Indian managed to regroup themselves
and put up a stronger defence thereby denying the fancied rivals, a chance of
scoring any more goals.
iii. India now await the result of the
Spain-Malaysia result later on Monday to know whether they finish fourth or
fifth in the group. Spain have two points from four matches, while Malaysia
have lost all their four games.
iv. A draw or a Malaysian victory will help India finish in
the fourth spot in the group, and then play-off for the seventh and eighth
spots.
